Circet Ireland and UKs Data Center Division are looking for an experienced Design Estimator to join our Data Centre team, based out of Slough,United Kingdom. .
Role Overview
The Design Estimator will support both pre-sales and post-sales activities, providing technical design, estimating and commercial support throughout the project lifecycle.
Working across data centre passive infrastructure projects, the role will be responsible for developing technically compliant and commercially accurate solutions, from initial tender and quotation through to project delivery. The successful candidate will work closely with Sales, Operations, Commercial and project teams to ensure designs, material requirements, labour estimates and costs are aligned with client specifications, programme and budget requirements.
The role will have a strong focus on fibre optic systems, horizontal cabling, containment, data cabinets and rack solutions, supporting the delivery of high-quality infrastructure solutions for major data centre clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the full pre-sales process from RFQ receipt through to tender submission and client clarification.
- Review and interpret client specifications, drawings, scope documents and project requirements.
- Develop technical solutions and designs for data centre passive infrastructure systems.
- Produce accurate material and labour take-offs from drawings, specifications and design information.
- Prepare detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs), cost estimates and project pricing.
- Prepare RFIs and clarification requests where scope, design or specification requirements are unclear.
- Assess new and revised information and identify impacts on scope, design, programme and cost.
- Manage quotation and design revisions in response to client changes and clarifications.
- Ensure designs and estimates comply with client specifications, applicable standards and project requirements.
- Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to obtain pricing, technical information and product availability.
- Support Sales and Commercial teams with technical and pricing information during tender and negotiation stages.
- Attend client meetings and support technical presentations, tender clarifications and commercial discussions where required.
- Provide design and estimating support following contract award, ensuring the solution developed during the tender stage can be effectively transitioned into delivery.
- Review post-award design changes and assess their impact on materials, labour, programme and cost.
- Support Operations and Project teams with design queries, technical information, material requirements and cost implications.
- Assist with variations and changes to scope by providing updated designs, quantities and cost estimates.
- Maintain accurate records of designs, estimates, revisions and supporting documentation.
- Work closely with Sales, Operations, Commercial, Finance and Health & Safety teams to ensure solutions are technically viable and commercially deliverable.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of data centre technologies, products, standards and industry best practice.
- Proven experience in design, estimating, pre-sales or technical support, preferably within the structured cabling, data centre or telecommunications industry.
- Experience working with fibre optic and copper structured cabling systems, including data centre applications.
- Good understanding of data centre passive infrastructure, including cabling, containment, cabinets, racks and associated systems.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and project documentation.
- Experience producing material take-offs, Bills of Materials and labour estimates.
- Good commercial awareness and understanding of project cost drivers.
- Strong attention to detail with an organised and analytical approach.
- Ability to assess design and scope changes and understand their impact on cost and delivery.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, tenders and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, suppliers and internal teams.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently while also contributing effectively within a wider team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Proficient in Google Workspace applications.
- Professional certifications such as RCDD, CNIDP or CDCP are desirable but not essential.
