About the Role:
The Electrical Design Manager is responsible for leading the electrical design function within the Wireless Design team and ensuring the delivery of safe, compliant and high-quality design solutions for wireless telecoms infrastructure projects. The role provides technical leadership across internal and external design resources, supports delivery from concept through to build, and ensures all outputs meet client, regulatory and company standards.
Responsibilities of Electrical Design Manger:
- Lead the delivery of electrical design solutions and technical reports for wireless telecoms infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with client, regulatory and company standards.
- Develop outline design solutions and ensure these are accurately translated into detailed drawing packs and supporting documentation.
- Review and approve electrical drawings and design outputs to maintain quality, accuracy, safety and compliance.
- Manage the in-house electrical design team, including resource planning, workflow coordination and delivery against programme and client deadlines.
- Work collaboratively with Project Managers, the Electrical Build Manager and other stakeholders to ensure alignment between design, build and delivery activities.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and provide updates across internal and client systems to support reporting and milestone tracking.
- Review and audit electrical designs produced by external suppliers, ensuring consistency, compliance and quality of output.
- Provide technical support during the build phase, resolving site queries and design issues in a timely manner.
- Ensure compliance with NICEIC requirements, company procedures, and relevant training and certification standards across the electrical design function.
- Lead, mentor and develop team members to support capability growth, technical consistency and succession planning.
- Support recruitment planning and identify future resource requirements in line with business and project demands.
- Maintain relevant client technical standards, documentation, and material or equipment specifications required to support design and delivery activities.
Knowledge & Skills Requirements:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Design, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Current BS 7671 qualification (18th Edition, latest amendment) and strong knowledge of UK electrical installation requirements.
- Demonstrable experience in electrical design, including significant experience within wireless telecoms or related infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of telecoms client standards and specifications, including MBNL, CTIL, Cellnex and MNO requirements.
- Experience of NICEIC requirements, electrical compliance processes, and technical supervision responsibilities.
- Working knowledge of CDM 2015 and the management of design-related health and safety risks.
- Proficiency in electrical design software and Microsoft Office applications, with the ability to produce clear and accurate technical documentation.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver to deadlines.
- Proven leadership capability, including team management, mentoring, quality assurance and supplier oversight.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to prepare, review and present technical information clearly and effectively.
- Inspection and Testing qualification, such as City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent.
- Professional registration, such as IEng or CEng, or demonstrable progress towards registration.
- Additional health and safety or management training, such as IOSH Managing Safely or SMSTS.
