Job Role Description
Project managers plan and designate project resources, prepare budgets, monitor progress, and keep stakeholders informed the entire way. This is all done within the confines of a company's goals and vision.
Commercials
- Profit and Loss
The Front Line Manager must ensure his/her project is profitable. He/she must assess revenue and cost associated with their project and drive the profit margin. The Front Line Manager must always be aware of his current and past P and L position and have a plan to improve the margin of the business.
- Monitor and Reduce WIP
Cash is the life line of the business. The Front Line Manager must ensure his/her WIP is no greater than 40 days.
3. Supplier Management
Circet’s supply chain is key to our success. To ensure the supply chain is happy the Front Line Manager must liaise with the relevant stakeholders and discuss any issues and when required find a solution that suits Circet and the supplier in question.
Front Line
- Agree Targets With the Client and Sign Relevant CDP’s
Every project will have different targets. The Front Line Manager must consider the ask from the client and what has been agreed on the CCN for each project. Based on information such as resource, hopper of works and other restrictions you must discuss and agree targets with your relevant stakeholders. If required CDP’s may need to be signed for each work period.
- Devise plan to deliver targets
Once targets have been agreed the Front Line Manager must devise a plan to deliver the project.
- Advise team on Front Line strategy
Once the Front Line Manager has a plan to deliver, the Front Line Manager must advise his/her team of the strategy. It is advised that the Front Line Manager has this as an open forum. An open forum will give the team the opportunity to discuss the plan and potentially together find a better way to move forward. The final decision and responsibility to move forward will always sit with the Project Manager.
- Identify Health and Safety Requirements
Every project will have associated risks. The Front Line Manager must consider these risks and take the required steps to minimise each risk. They must also consider any training requirements for members of staff and contractors on their project. The training must be in line with the projects requirements and monitored to ensure the allocated time frame for each accreditation or qualification does not lapse. Once each member of staff and contractor have been deployed on the project with the correct qualifications or accreditations the project manager must ensure the work areas are supervised and poor standards of health and safety are dealt with immediately. Depending on the severity of the incident the project manager may be required to carry out an investigation which will identify the failings and learnings. The investigation must be completed and returned to the HSEQ department and Contract Manager.
The health and Safety department are a support function that the Project Manager can use to assist with decisions and monitoring of operations.
- Set Glides and Provide Updates to the Client and Circet Management
The Front Line Manager should set/agree a glide with the client for every quarters target and ensure the glide and target is achieved. Glides must be detailed on an agreed document that must be returned the first day of every working week. Weekly targets are critical for the client so the Front Line Manager must ensure he/she delivers the agreed glide. If the glide is not achieved the Front Line Manager must discuss the failings with the client and advise when the project will be back on glide.
- Attend Client and Supplier Calls and Meetings
To ensure the project runs smoothly the Front Line Manager should arrange meetings with their stakeholders and supply chain. Meetings should be recorded on notes and trackers and be used to address all areas of the project.
- Support Team with Front Line
The Front Line Manager must support his/her team with all aspects of the project. When challenges arise the Front Line Manager must advise best actions to resolve any problems or discuss the problems with the client and senior managers to try and find a quick solution.
Defects
- Eliminate Reinstatement Defects
Reinstatement defects incur cost to the business. The Front Line Manager must ensure defects are cleared immediately and must not be older than 6 months old.
- Eliminate Interim Defects
Interim defects incur cost to the business. The Front Line Manager must ensure defects are cleared immediately and must not be older than 6 months old.
- Eliminate Candid Defects
Candid defects must not be older than 30 days. Defects can cause faults which can affect end user services which may result in penalties and reduction of contracts being awarded to Circet.
Other Business Requirements
- Daily Whereabouts
The Front Line Manager must ensure a daily whereabouts is submitted every day to the client and Circet management for all field staff. This is in line with Circet procedure and CDM regulations.
- Complete a Minimum of One HSEQ Every Week
The site check is required to ensure the Front Line Manager is present in the field at least one day every week.
- Ensure Front Line Team Complete Their Required HSEQ Checks Every Week
The Front Line Manager must ensure his/her Front Line Managers and Site Supervisors complete at least five HESQ site checks per week.
Business Etiquette
- Stakeholder Management
The relationship between the Front Line Manager and the client must be positive. Any strain/issues between parties can have a detrimental effect on the project and potentially affect Circet’s business. He/she must ensure the dialogue with the stakeholder is restricted to language that will have a positive impact on Circet. The Front Line Manager must manage their stakeholders expectations. Poor stakeholder management will result in escalations that can be avoided if the correct amount of management is applied.
- Team Management
The Front Line Manager must also maintain a good relationship with his/her team. The Front Line Manager must always look to improve deteriorating circumstances and drive the team to a more positive environment of work. When the Front Line Manager identifies issues with his/her staff they must investigate the issues and when required setup the required training which could resolve the issues. When the Front Line Manager feels it necessary they should inform senior management and human resources who maybe able to support the Front Line Manager to find a better solution.
Every member of staff is entitled to annual leave. The Front Line Manager must ensure when leave is taken it does not have a negative impact on any part of the business.
