Job: Internal Group Legal Counsel

Purpose: 

The Legal Counsel will be responsible for all legal and secretarial matters across the Irish & UK part of the Circet Group, with ownership for the oversight and management of Legal Compliance within the organisation, as well as overseeing the legal environment and all commercial contracts. The role holder will also work closely with the Risk and Compliance functions to ensure that the overall Risk Management framework of the Group remains fit for purpose

Reports to: Group CFO

Company Scale: Forecast Group turnover  in excess of €700m for FY Dec 23

Location:  GHQ, Cloverhill, Clondalkin, Dublin 22

 

The Group’s functional reporting currency is € however it currently operates in the following jurisdictions:-

  • ROI
  • UK

Key Duties:

  • Providing senior management with high quality in-house legal support across a wide spectrum of matters;
  • Supporting senior management in new business initiatives and provision of transactional support on acquisition and client activity;
  • Negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts impacting the Group and providing support/advice on those contracts to the relevant commercial managers;
  • Pro-active approach to monitoring legal developments to identify legal potential threats, risks, emerging issues and opportunities using internal and external sources allowing for robust preparatory planning and mitigation where appropriate and updating senior management and other staff on any relevant changes (through written updates and training) and shaping internal policies and procedures to respond to change;
  • Managing all the legal and secretarial functions for all group companies;
  • Ensure all corporate documents are fully up to date and properly filed:
  • Updating and maintenance of register of members for all companies in the group
  • Over time to take on more and more of the external legal work, in order to minimise external legal costs (items like employment advice, insurance claims, etc.)
  • Developing relations with external law firms and managing the provision of external legal advice to the Group in line with requirements.

 

Key Relationships:

  • Develop and maintain an open relationship with Contract Managers and Senior Project Managers
  • Develop and maintain open relationships with Directors and other key personnel appropriate for the effective execution of the role.

Key Skills/Person Specification

Essential

  • Min 5 years PQE, in-house legal experience strongly preferred
  • A strong academic background;
  • Commercially astute and pragmatic;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, changing environment;
  • A team player with a strong sense of values and behaviours;
  • A person who is capable of building good relationships at all levels across the organisation and externally;
