Circet Ireland and UK are currently recruiting for an OHL Surveyor to join our Power Division.
The Overhead Line Surveyor is responsible for surveying, assessing, and designing overhead electricity distribution networks to support construction, refurbishment, and diversion works up to and including 33kV. The role ensures that all survey data, designs, and documentation are accurate, compliant with DNO standards, and suitable for safe construction and ongoing network operation.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Survey existing overhead electricity lines up to and including 33kV to assess condition, compliance, and suitability for refurbishment or replacement.
- Carry out detailed ground line surveys to establish clearances, spans, access requirements, and site constraints.
- Complete line profiling, sagging calculations, and design surveys using PoleCad software to ensure compliance with statutory clearances and network standards.
- Survey and design proposed route alterations, including the assessment and design of associated LV cable proposals where required.
- Carry out vegetation and tree cutting surveys, identifying clearance requirements in line with safety regulations and environmental constraints.
- Produce accurate maps, drawings, sketches, and survey documentation for issue to construction teams and other stakeholders.
- Liaise with project managers, planners, and construction teams to clarify survey findings and support buildability of designs.
- Identify access, land ownership, environmental, and third-party constraints and feed these into the design and planning process.
Skills & Attributes
- Carry out all survey activities in accordance with DNO safety rules, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Identify and report safety hazards, network defects, or compliance issues discovered during surveys.
- Ensure designs meet statutory requirements, DNO technical standards, and industry regulations.
- Experience surveying overhead electricity networks within the electricity distribution sector.
- Knowledge of overhead line construction and design up to 33kV.
- Competence in ground line surveying techniques and data collection.
- Experience using PoleCad software for line profiling and sagging design.
- Ability to produce clear and accurate drawings, maps, and sketches.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Experience designing route diversions and LV cable proposals.
- Knowledge of vegetation management requirements and tree cutting legislation.
- Familiarity with DNO technical standards and specifications.
- Utility-specific safety training (e.g. EUSR, SHEA Power).
